The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the celebration of Black History Month at the 16th Annual “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” Concert | The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus would like to invite all to a truly unforgettable experience, at the 16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr., “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” Concert. This extraordinary event is a heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a celebration of Black History Month through the powerful medium of choral music. The concert is scheduled for February 22, 2025, at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, located at 4001 Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville. Doors open at 1:30 pm, and the performance begins at 2:00 pm.
The concert will feature a special performance by the esteemed Morehouse College Glee Club, under the direction of Dr. David Morrow, who has led the well-traveled group since 1981. Morehouse College was founded in 1867 and is noted as the nation’s only historically Black private liberal arts college for men. In fact, Morehouse is where Martin Luther King Jr. himself attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. For the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus, this collaboration with Morehouse College Glee Club is a prestigious honor.
This event is generously sponsored by VyStar Credit Union, The Jacksonville Transportation Authority, and Florida State College at Jacksonville. This year’s concert promises to be an afternoon of powerful music and deep reflection, with emcees Isaiah M. Oliver, President of the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, and Lisa V. Johnson, Chief Technology Officer at IBM, guiding us through this momentous occasion.
Darren Dailey, President and Artistic Director of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus, expresses his enthusiasm for the event and its significance in their annual programming:
“This will be the JCC’s 16th year presenting the “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” concert, and this year, we are especially honored to share the stage with the Morehouse College Glee Club during our 30th Anniversary Season. As we pay tribute to Dr. King’s legacy and other advocates for equality and justice, we celebrate the power of coming together in the ongoing journey toward unity through song.”
