By Lynn Jones-Turpin – The African American community spends billions of dollars as the top consumers of products and goods in the country, but one of the highest groups that suffers from serious health issues that are mainly lifestyle driven. To dispel these myths and rumors, the recently held ‘Carmen’s On the Run Styling’ Pop-up-shop with a Purpose: Styling from the Inside Out’ event convened for a fit, fabulous, style and wellness collaboration series.
The goal of the event is to become a resource to bring health and style topics to women in a relaxed social environment where discussions can be had and attendees empowered to make changes in their lifestyle.
“We want to pay it forward now and for the next generation,” said stylist and organizer Nicole Smith.
Nicole began her styling boutique and journey to fitness two years ago. With flagrant disparities in health care and that multitudes many of women not styling their attire to their shapes and sizes, Smith decided to use her passion for fashion to coordinate a health and fitness events to plug into health inequities and fashion do’s and don’ts.
On the day’s events agenda were a fitness trainer and naturopathic nutritionist guide, handmade jewelry vendors and Chef Matthew of the Vegan Café discussing healthy eating, meal preparation and responded to common vegan style questions.
