Recently, The River City Pearls (RCP), an interest group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., collected and assembled nearly 200 bags of fresh fruit that was delivered to senior citizens in their target area of the Southside of Jacksonville through Meals on Wheels. The members of the group conducted a contactless drop off for their members and others.  The bags contained apples, oranges, tangerines, mandarin oranges, lemons, limes, pears, and bananas to help combat food deserts. The Alpha Kappa Alpha National Initiative on Nutrition and Wellness, Target II, emphasizes healthy lifestyles including prenatal, childhood, adult, and senior nutrition programs. The focus this month was on healthy eating plans and safe diets for longer, healthier living. RCP’s seated from left to right: Vernice Whitfield, President of the River City Pearls, Shavon Cobb, Chairman of Target II. Committee members standing:  Vonsetta Smithson, Tumika Mondy, Angela Smiley, Jill Jinks, Ayana Wysinger, and Tourea Robinson.
