After more than 18 tries ranging from petitions for governor appointments, recommendations and elections to become a judge, Rhonda Peoples-Waters has been sworn in as the first elected Black female judge of Duval County. Peoples-Waters was victorious in the County Court Judge Group 6 race, when in 2019 she unseated incumbent Judge Erin Perry, with 58% of the vote. Judge Peoples-Waters made history as the first African American woman elected to the judicial bench in Duval County. People-Waters has closed her law office in preparation for her role as judge. The post last for six years before re-election is required. Shown is Peoples-Waters with her daughter Jasmine holding the bible to begin her journey.
