By Brenda Alexander – Raven-Symoné escaped the stereotype of child stars who fall into the dangers of fame. She started out alongside Bill Cosby when he dominated the television space and from there, she carved out her own lane in music and continued acting.
Symoné recently revealed that despite being in the industry for over 30 years, she has yet to spend any of the income she made from her first major gig with Cosby. Fans are shocked but proud and are questioning just how much the star is worth.
Symoné has been chatting with fans and her entertainment colleagues on Instagram live since the shutdown began. During a more recent chat, one fan mentioned previous statements made by Symoné regarding her finances, as related to her work on The Cosby Show.
“You hinted at that you still have your Cosby money, you hinted at that right,” the fan asked. Raven confirmed that she’d made such a statement in the past. “So, is it true that you have not touched your Cosby money or do you mean residuals as of lately,” he continued.
“I haven’t touched my Cosby money,” Raven confirmed.
“Oh b**ch, you are rich,” the fan joked and clapped. He praised the actress for her resume and for her being smart enough to make her money last in that way. “That’s a flex, that’s a humble flex,” he declared.
Raven-Symoné on ‘The Cosby Show’ and early career
It’s hard to believe that Symoné has never spent any of her money from The Cosby Show, considering she starred on the show at 3-years-old and is now 34. She was hired for the role of Olivia, Cosby’s step-granddaughter. She made her debut during season six and stayed as a recurring cast member for two seasons until the show ended in 1992.
After Cosby ended, she had a role in as the younger version of Halle Berry’s character in the television movie Queen: The Story of an American Family. She switched things up at the tender age of five when she landed a record deal with MCA.
Her debut musical release was her album Here’s to New Dreams and released two singles: “That’s What Little Girls Are Made Of,” and “Raven Is the Flavor.” The album didn’t sell well and she was subsequently dropped from MCA.
She bounced back quickly when she landed the role of Nicole Lee on Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper alongside Marc Curry where she stayed until the final episode in 1997. The next year, she starred in Dr. Doolittle alongside Eddie Murphy in 1998, which earned $30 million worldwide.
How Raven-Symoné earned her money and what’s her net worth today?
Symoné’s biggest break came with her own Disney series, That’s So Raven. The show became one of the most successful sitcoms in the history of the network and aired for four successful seasons. The show was nominated for two Emmy awards.
Simultaneously, she was cast in a lead role in Disney’s The Cheetah Girls, where she participated in the first two films and toured with the group for promotion. Disney launched a merchandising line for both That’s So Raven and The Cheetah Girls, which included soundtracks, dolls, DVDs, and video games.
Symoné later co-hosted The View and currently stars on ABC’s Black-ish as the sister of Anthony Anderson’s character. She’s done well for herself with an estimated net worth of $55 million.
