Ralph F. Young: September 15, 1950 - April 23, 2024

Ralph Floyd Young passed away on April 23, 2024. Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Chapel of Holmes Glover Solomon Funeral Directors, Inc. from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.

A Celebration of Life for Ralph Young will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM from the Historic Mt. Zion AME Church (201 E. Beaver St., Jacksonville, FL 32202).

Pastor, Dr. Victor D. Cole is officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the service.

Ralph Young was born September 15, 1950 in Jacksonville Florida to the late Laurie and Annie Floyd Young. Ralph Floyd Young was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend.

Ralph & Olivia Young

Ralph married the love of his life, Olivia A. Small (Young) on November 28, 1983.  They were devoted to each other for 40 years.  During this time a precious daughter came into their lives, TaSheka R. Young (deceased 2022). In the passing of their daughter, Ralph and Olivia were committed with love to raise 2 grandchildren, Bursey and Bailey. For these 2 grand’s, Ralph is called ‘Papa’.

Ralph attended the Duval County Public Schools, Susie Tolbert (elementary), James Weldon Johnson (Jr. High) and graduated high school in 1969 from Stanton Vocational.  During this time, he was active with baseball and football.  After high school, Ralph took courses on education at FSCJ.

In pursue of a career, Ralph initially wanted to be a Fireman, until he found his passion as a Merchant Seaman. This choice was the result of his further passion of wanting to travel and see the world, for which he did.  Ralph retired with over 30 years of service with the United States Government, Maritime.

Ralph had many gifts, talents and hobbies. He was a certified tailor, and enjoyed collecting; stamps, coins and baseball cards. Most of all, as he traveled and saw the world, he had a love for history. Ralph would continuously talk of his experiences to everyone; in church and wherever he went.

He was a member of Historic Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church for 40 plus years, and was a member of Sons of Allen Usher Board.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Laurie and Annie Floyd Young; siblings, Arthur Young (Annette), Lauriel Young, Betty Jean White (John), Ida Turner (Cornelius), and Emma Williams (Zachary); loving daughter, TaSheka R. Young; and brother-in-law, Joseph N. Small (Phoebe).

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Olivia A. Young. A loving son, Alphonso Young (Debra); and grandchildren, Bursey & Bailey Amstrong, and Khalil & Dominik Young. He also leaves to cherish his memory; brothers, Walter Young, James Young (Barbara), and George Young (Phyllis); brother-in-laws, Sidney Small (Linda), and Michael Small (Melanie); sister-in-laws, Denise Wilson (Henry), and Michelle Ellis (James).  Also cherishing his memory Pastor, Dr. Victor D. Cole (1st Lady Maria Cole); aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
