Ownership Program Breathing New Life in Old Neighborhoods

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in partnership with other agencies recently launched Project Boots, a new program that will guide five local residents on their path towards homeownership in Jacksonville’s Historic Eastside neighborhood. The program will provide down payment assistance and a homeownership training curriculum to participants over the course of 12 months. Following completion of the program, participants will be able to purchase and build a new home on existing vacant lots in Historic Eastside.
Program requirements include a monthly savings requirement, (which will be matched by the program during the 12-month program commitment) and monthly training sessions. The session  will cover financial components including wealth-building mechanism, health-related topics, home maintenance, and others.
“The Eastside is the first step in a larger, three-year initiative to support homeownership in other neighborhoods throughout Jacksonville that have historically very low rates of homeownership,” added Cohen.
