Sculptured artist, carpenter and now author Khamil Ojoyo has penned the book, Hello! Ojoyo Has Something to Say! A Collection of Original Poems, Quotes and Art.  To share his accomplishments, a book signing and art exhibit was recently held inside Beyond the Walls Outreach Ministries on the Northside.  Celebrating with a “Boots & Buckles,” theme, hundreds of fans attended the book signing in their southwestern wear and gear.

Since the 1970’s Ojoyo has been a self taught sculptor creating original pieces from repurposed objects, i.e., plastic, metal, wood, glass and textiles destined for the landfills. “I look at these items as treasures. I shine them up and create one of a kind art,” said OJoYo.

His book showcases a collection of his poems, quotes and photos of his art. The quotes and poems are a poetic expression of 30 years of writing in his personal diary. Inside the pages are reflections he heard through the years from his mother, friends, family and his personal creative thoughts.

Ojoyo continued, “I always wanted to make my mother proud, I would listen to her tell stories of her childhood and be enamored with her strength. Now we both can be proud. My village was a plethora of wisdom from the wise,” he said.
