Every October, we pause to honor survivors of domestic violence and remember those who lost their lives to it. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is more than just a time to reflect. It’s a call to action and a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating safer communities.
This year, Kids Hope Alliance is proud to partner with Not My City, a powerful community-based initiative led by Hubbard House, a life-changing shelter providing comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence year-round.
Not My City is a movement that focuses on a critical piece of the solution: empowering men and boys to be active allies in preventing violence against women and girls. Through intentional education, open dialogue, and community partnerships, the initiative works to:
- Challenge harmful gender norms
- Shift societal attitudes
- Inspire real, lasting change
The message is clear: ending domestic violence is not just a women’s issue. It’s a community issue, and men and boys have a vital role in being part of the solution.
As part of our shared efforts this October, Hubbard House will once again host the Barbara Ann Campbell Memorial Breakfast, an annual event that honors the lives tragically lost to domestic violence. This year’s breakfast will take place on October 15th at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. It is a solemn but powerful reminder of why this work is so important and a moment to come together as a community in support, solidarity, and hope.
Together, with initiatives like Not My City and partnerships across Jacksonville, we are working to raise awareness, support survivors, and build a future free from violence.
Let’s continue to listen, learn, and lead. Let’s make October more than just a month. Let’s make it a movement.
