The DONNA Foundation kicked-off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with ‘The Players Donna 5k,’ celebrating its 15th running for the first event in the DONNA 2021-2022 Fearless Series and marks the foundation’s return to in-person racing alongside virtual options. This year the in-person event drew more than 750 participants to THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and celebrate survivorship. In the past year, The DONNA Foundation served more than 1,500 breast cancer patients and their families with critical support, a 41% increase over the prior year. Funds raised through THE PLAYERS DONNA 5K will support The DONNA Foundation’s mission to provide financial assistance and support to those living with breast cancer and fund groundbreaking breast cancer research. This event also illustrates the foundation’s dedication to celebrating survivorship throughout the year, and especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. National Mammography Day is also a part of Breast Cancer Awareness month and is celebrated on the third Friday of October every year. For years, breast cancer awareness has been celebrated in the month of October, this year September 30, President Biden officially proclaimed October 2021 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During walks and national promotions, the pink ribbon has become the symbol of breast cancer awareness and identifies the wearer or promoter with the breast cancer brand and expresses moral support for women with breast cancer.
