O Magazine to Lay Off Nearly 60 Employees: Report

By WI Web Staff – Top brass at The Oprah Magazine says that after 20 years, it’s time for a change — including laying off at least 59 employees as soon as February.

Hearst Communications, which owns the Oprah Winfrey-published magazine, filed notice with the New York State Labor Department about the layoffs, though exactly which employees would be affected is uncertain, The Hill reported Monday.

Winfrey, who announced over the summer that the lifestyle magazine would scale back to four issues a year, said at the time that the publication “is evolving because after 20 years of covers I think it’s time. … I also think it’s a good thing because none of us were meant to stay the same. We evolve with the times.”
