NSCOC Fees the Mouths and Soul of Thousands for Homecoming

The streets of Avenue B and Weaver Road were filled to capacity for the Northside Church of Christ’s (NSCOC) 19th Annual Community Fish Fry.  Each year the church holds “Homecoming” type activities as they fellowship and reach out to neighbors from surrounding communities.

Hundreds of people participated as friends and family joined the congregation to eat “free” fish, hotdogs, snow cones, and popcorn. The celebration also included played board games, face painting, a mega slide, basketball and a clothing giveaway.

Local nonprofits were on the campus distributing pamphlets and information on healthcare and family and senior services. According to church leaders, the annual event has awakened the community to become more engaged in creating change while enabling NSCOC to further provide civic and spiritual support and recognition. Homecoming services also concluded a breakfast, worship services, and dinner program.

Festivities will continue this weekend in commemoration of the 60th Church Anniversary.  This year’s theme is Preparing for the Future-Living in the Present.  Pastor McClendon, remarked, “This is the time to celebrate and glorify God with gratitude and love all week.”

The church has also announced a free Gospel Revival concert scheduled for Sunday, November 10th that will feature acapella music to inspire and stir the soul.
