Several Jacksonville neighborhoods have been identified as food deserts – an urban area in which it is difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food. In order to meet that challenge, Southeastern Grocery Stores has vowed to end that disparity with the opening of a new Harveys Supermarket on Edgewood Avenue in the Paxon area. The new store kicked off this week with an expanded produce and meat departments and nearly 700 food essentials in the “$1 Zone”.
“It became clear that this neighborhood was in need of a new and different offering from us,” said Ian McLeod, President and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, parent company of Harveys which also includes BI-Lo and Winn-Dixie on their grocery family.
