Melanoma Research Alliance

  • The Melanoma Research Alliance and the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention want to raise awareness about the importance of skin cancer prevention through their “Don’t Fry Day” campaign.
  • This Friday, May 24th, has been designated as “Don’t Fry Day” – a national effort to encourage everyone to protect their skin as they head outdoors.
  • Beyond Don’t Fry Day, a few more evergreen sun-safe tips from the MRA include:
    • Never intentionally expose your skin to the sun’s rays
    • Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily
    • Reapply at least every 2 hours, and more if you’re sweating or swimming
    • Apply one ounce to your body (at least the size of a shot glass) and about 1/3 of a teaspoon (about the size of a nickel) to the face
    • Wear sun-protective clothing, hats and sunglasses
    • Avoid peak UV rays, particularly between 10am to 4pm
