Councilman Rahman Johnson and Sharon Coon

Friends, family and neighbors gathered at the Brentwood Library on Pearl Street for a book talk featuring an introduction to Cicely Tyson and the music and legacy of Miles Davis. More than fifty participants dialogued on actress and civil rights activist Cicely Tyson career, her hobbies and her musical marriage to Miles Davis. The events agenda included live jazz music by Ray Mezo Jazz Trio, a reception and recognition proclamation from Councilman Rahman Johnson presented to event creator and Fiends of Brentwood founder creator Sharon Coon.

The Friends of Brentwood Public Library continues their community goals with sponsoring the ‘Read and Snack,’ program which encourages students to read for at least 15 minutes a day during library operating  hours.

Next on the their agenda is the James Weldon Johnson Young Authors Writers Festival, June 5th – 8th, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and will be presenting over $10K in awards and scholarships to young authors in grades 3rd – 12th.
