KIPP School Connects With UNCF

KIPP School Connects With UNCF – Close to 200 people gathered inside the auditorium at the KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) school, a free public charter school on the city’s Westside to hear from Dr. Michael Lomax. Lomax, Chief Executive Officer and President of the United Negro College Fund took the opportunity to speak to those in attendance about the importance of education. Lomax stressed how he believes education is the only way out of poverty. Lomax said, “we need allies and champions outside the walls of KIPP.” Lomax went on to say that many are unable to escape their dire circumstances because they don’t have the means to a decent education. Community leaders, parents and elected officials including Congresswoman Corrine Brown were in attendance. The United Negro College Fund, which Lomax has been at the helm since 2004, is the largest provider of private scholarships to African American Students.
