By Lynn Jones – In an effort to create an atmosphere for businesses to hone their entertainment crafts, 2017 was the year that paralegal Carisa Brown opened the Jazz Poetry Café. Held monthly  on the first Friday at the Elks lodge, attendees enjoy a live band, poets and catering by the Suga Mamma’s experience.  The musical performances and spoken word is billed as a “cabaret,” to harmonize the social night scene by evoking nostalgia for elite and mature audiences via live music and spoken word poetry. “Our team wanted to bridge a gap for Duval’s entertainers to perform and have a venue to brand their products of expression,” said organizer Carisa Brown.

Over the past decade Brown has specialized in artist management and partners with renowned vocalist Antonio King to facilitate the growth of up and coming artists and produce unmatched and incomparable performances during the event. “

The event generates exposure for artists, musicians and small business owners to have a platform to express their individuality. Guests also have a table to table networking concept.

“I’ve been hearing about this café and now I’m here. The food, the vibes were top notch, I will return,” said first timer Eugene Eubanks.
