The Jacksonville Force, North Florida’s first WABA (Women’s American Basketball Association) team, easily clinched a 107 to 63 win over the Montgomery, Alabama Lady Magic on September 19th ending their first regular season at 9-1. That win secured their spot in the WABA playoffs taking place this weekend in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Force is a newly formed pro women’s basketball team. Their first season began this past July and with the momentum of the playoffs and a seat on the All-Star team for some of its players, they look forward to becoming a staple in the women’s movement and Jacksonville community for years to come.
Three of the Force team players have made the WABA All Star Team 2021, #15 Antionette Bannister, #44 Destiny Campbell, and #3 Shaquita Snow. All-Star Weekend is October 22-24 in Augusta, Georgia with the 1st Annual WABA All-Star Game on October 24, Butler High School, in Augusta.
“We appreciate the city for showing interest in supporting our organization in attempting to expand women’s basketball along with empowering female athletes who are interested in pursuing sports,” said Dashia Williams, assistant coach to owner/ headcoach Ronnell Durante of North Florida’s 1st ever Women’s Semipro Basketball team.
The team next big face off is Saturday, October 9th at 4pm. inside The Potter’s House Gym versus the Montgomery Magic. In winning this game, the team will position themselves as a 1st time team in the league to play in the Final Four.
