The Jacksonville Jaguars nominated defensive lineman Calais Campbell for theWalter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. Considered one of the league’s most prestigious honors, the award recognizes the NFL player that best demonstrates outstanding community service and excellence on the field. Campbell will wear a Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year helmet decal through the end of the season in recognition of his accomplishments on and off the field.
One of the perks of being “Man of the year” are Super Bowl tickets. During last weeks Jaguars All Access television program, Calais surprised Washington Heights resident Alton Gordon with the tickets. “When asking around the community whose doing the work, Alton’s name kept coming up,” said Calais. Alston, known as the “Mayor of Ken Knight Drive,” was speechless. Calais will also provide a stipend to help with his travel.
