November 11th is Veterans Day around the Unites States. From WWI/II, the Tuskegee airmen to the Montford Pointe Marines, African Americans continue to serve their time in the U.S. military. Greater Works Church in Oceanway Sunday honored November birthdays and military veterans at their recent service.

Among the honorees were 38 year married couple and military veterans Carrie and John Wade. The couple both served in the armed forces with careers in the PAir Force and U.S. Army respectively. The couple met in Germany when Carrie briefly held a position in the U.S. Army, “I was dared to join the air force, the naysayers said I couldn’t do it and here I am retired from the U. S. Air Force.  I’m proud of our collective 50+ years in service,” she said.

Greater Works is under the leadership of Pastor Kelvin Postell and first lady Brenda Postell. The Wades have been members of Greater Works Church for five years. Husband John chimed in, “we were looking for a church near our home; Greater works pastor and congregation makes us feel like we are at home every Sunday,” he said.
