While visiting a vendor fair, Free Press Urban Traveler columnist was impressed by Debra James-Hughes and her natural body care products. Here’s her story:
Born and raised primarily in Chicago, IL, entrepreneur Debra James-Hughes grew up as an Army Brat and Navy Wife. She is the mother of four and was employed for many years with the federal government. While researching remedies for skin issues, James-Hughes discovered ayurvedic herbs and quickly began mixing numerous products to aid in everything from acne to eczema with a focus on hydration for skin and hair.
Fast forward Debra and her family arrived in Jacksonville Fl in 2019 and in 2021 Lavish Lee Body Boutique was created in honor of her late grandmother Mrs. Bertha Lee Page. She describes her as a beautiful, hardworking nurse, mother, wife and entrepreneur, James-Hughes smiled, “My grandmother Bertha Lee was the epitome of a businesswoman, with a serious green thumb. I had to take as look at the impact my grandmother had on me and knew that it was important that I’d leave a legacy of my own.” My grandmother encouraged me to start a business with the products I would make, describing them as lavish and luxurious. Hence the name Lavish Lee. The spelling was intentional to incorporate Bertha Lee and the lasting impression she made. “Every time I see Lavish Lee I’m reminded of her as and the valuable lessons she taught our family.” She continued, “My grandmother would share her love of gardening with me when I was a little girl, we would spend time together growing vegetables and flowers too.”
Today, the owner of Lavish Lee Body Boutique enjoys growing a variety of botanicals that are infused into the formulas of various shea butter bath products for the ultimate natural experience.
