Grammy-Award Winning Jazz Trumpeter Maurice “Mobetta” Brown

On Saturday, August 31, as part of a memorable three-part jazz series presented by The Orlando Jazz Collective. This highly anticipated event will feature world-class musicians and an electrifying atmosphere at Judson’s Live inside The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

The series kicks off on Saturday, July 27, with pianist and composer Javier Santiago. Joining Santiago will be saxophonist Braxton Cook, drummer Jonathan Pinson, and bassist Dion Kerr. Santiago, known for his prowess in both jazz and hip-hop, is also an esteemed educator, arranger, and producer. He has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Terrace Martin, and Alex Isley. His debut album, “Phoenix” (2018), was named “#1 Jazz Album of the Year” by Vinyl Me, Please; a subscription based, record of the month club.

On Saturday, August 31, the series continues with Maurice “Mobetta” Brown. A Grammy Award-winning trumpeter, composer, and producer, Brown’s performances are celebrated for their dynamic energy and soulful melodies. Blending contemporary jazz, blues-rock, and hip-hop, Brown will be accompanied by vocalist and Central Florida native Tyreek McDole as a special guest performer. After relocating to New York after Hurricane Katrina, Brown collaborated with music legends such as Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, and The Roots. His second album, “The Cycle of Love”, was named one of the best records of the year by NPR and Huffington Post. Brown also won a Grammy for his horn arrangements on the Tedeschi-Trucks Band’s debut album.

The series concludes on Saturday, October 12 with a spectacular finale featuring the eclectic and innovative Butcher Brown. Known for their genre-defying sound that merges jazz with elements of funk, soul, and rock, Butcher Brown’s performance will be a high-energy celebration of musical creativity. Their latest release, “Solar Music” (2023), showcases their skill in blending acoustic and electric instruments, cementing their place at the forefront of modern jazz.

“I am so proud of our three-part series,” said Jerry Jasmin, President of the Orlando Jazz Collective. “It’s a testament to our commitment and passion for jazz, showcasing our dedication to making a significant impact on the jazz community. Together, we are not only celebrating the rich history of jazz but also fostering its growth and evolution for future generations.”

The Orlando Jazz Collective, a dedicated local non-profit organization, has been actively enriching Orlando’s vibrant arts scene by bringing world-class contemporary jazz artists to the city. Last year, they featured Emmy-award winning saxophonist Braxton Cook and trumpeter Theo Croker.
