Lorraine Carr of the Quilt of Valor Foundation recently honored the oldest living female, World War II Veteran, Cpl. Josephine E. Statham, age 96 with a beautiful hand-made quilt.
The presentation was held at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lake City, Florida. Quilt of Valor Foundation honored her for her service in the U.S. Army from March 3, 1943 to July 7, 1944, where she was a chef. The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a grassroots group of quilters from across the United States.
On each quilt, there is a label and a note that will tells something about the quilt’s beginnings. As of today, the story of this quilt becomes Cpl. Statham’s story. Carr said, “We hope you will keep it with you as a tangible reminder that, no matter where you served, you were on our minds and in our hearts and prayers. You have never been forgotten.”
