Farm Fork to Table Series Reimages the Legacy of Soul Food

Foodies listen to the roots of Black culinary history, arts and agriculture by Dr. Johnetta Betsch Cole.

Eartha’s Farm & Market and Chef Jeff Johnson held a two day ‘Roots of Southern Cuisine: “Table Roots Soil to Soul: Farm to Fork” community event celebrating the rich heritage of southern cuisine, traditions, and agriculture. This two day fundraiser explored the lineage of Historic Moncrief Springs, the legacy of Dr. Eartha M. M. White, and explored the Mission’s urban farm center operations.

At the event, tables were elegantly spread out for the ‘Cultivating the Roots,’ community food expo which featured vendors, music, activities for kids, and tours of the community garden. On Sunday, the ‘Table Roots Farm to Fork,’ soil to soul dinner marked the start of a four-part dinner series celebrating the delicious heritage known as Soul Food. Chef JJ served up a menu of fried chicken, sautéed vegetables, macaroni and cheese with savory deserts to wet guests pallets.

Funds raised will be donated to Jacksonville Arts and Music School (JAMS) and Eartha’s Farm & Market to support their at-risk youth programming.
