Florida A&M Interim (FAMU) Director of Athletics, Interim Athletic Director Michael Smith and Head Football Coach Willie Simmons were in Duval recently to meet with the local Rattler Athletic Fund (RAF) and Rattler Booster family. The tour, hosted by FAMU Board of Trustee’s Duval resident Chairman Kelvin Lawson and local alumni Emmitt and Hattie Alexander and Drs. Ephraim and Victoria Riggins.
The coaches discussion hinged on highlighting the vision for FAMU Athletics, soliciting financial support and scholarship fundraising for deserving Rattler student-athletes. FAMU Baseball Hall of Famer Dr. Ephraim Riggins was proud, “Sports is fundamental to help athletics learn discipline, develop motor skills and mind/body connection, while earning a higher education degree,” said Dr. Riggins.
Guests enjoyed refreshments, networking and were eager to donate to the worthy cause. Rounding out the agenda was were local living legends Tommy Chandler, Al Denson, Curtis Miranda and Coach Rudy Hubbard who were on hand to please for support.
