Editorial: CaRE2 Pancreatic Cancer Advocate Training

Pancreatic cancer starts in the pancreas, an organ behind the stomach that aids digestion and regulates blood sugar. Known as a “silent disease,” it shows no early signs. Symptoms like stomach pain, jaundice, or weight loss usually appear in advanced stages, making early diagnosis crucial. This cancer is a serious concern for Black or African American individuals who are more likely to be diagnosed at younger ages or with larger tumors, leading to poorer outcomes.

Early diagnosis is key, but many people are unaware of screening and treatment options which might delay care. Education and community awareness are essential to improve early diagnosis which can save lives. This is where the CaRE² Health Equity Center steps in. The center works to help increase awareness about cancer through research, education, and outreach to communities substantially impacted. By raising awareness, promoting early diagnosis, and sharing cancer-related resources, we help individuals learn how to advocate for themselves and others which will improve overall survival.

Please join the CaRE² Health Equity Center at its upcoming Pancreatic Cancer Advocate Training, a FREE virtual event on Wednesday, February 26, from 6–8 PM EST.
