EARLY LEARNING COALITION OF DUVAL WILL LAUNCH COMMUNITY EARLY LEARNING RESOURCE WEBSITE

Jacksonville, Fla., July 26, 2014 —The Early Learning Coalition of Duval is proud to debut a new community resource website for parents and early learning advocates on FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2015.

Thanks to a grant from The Chartrand Family Foundation and the Community Foundation, the new website, www.EarlyLearningJax.org, has been in the making for the past year. It has been a true community collaboration soliciting input from families, child care providers, policy makers, pediatricians, advocates, early learning professionals and partners so a content-rich website could be developed to serve as a resource for early learning, health, development and parent engagement .

“This website is the beginning of a new, more unified way of approaching early childhood,” said Susan Main, President and CEO of the Early Learning Coalition of Duval. “It will give families, advocates and professionals a one stop resource for information about early childhood health, early learning & school readiness. The website promotes family engagement, community resources and information supporting the critically important years from birth to five.”

The vision for the website grew out of recommendations from the JCCI’s Children 1-2-3 Community Study and the new ELC of Duval’s Strategic Plan. The grant, funded through the Chartrand Family Fund and the Jacksonville Children’s Endowment at the Community Foundation recognized the need to centralize parent and community information and access to resources for parents of children from birth to five-years-old. The Early Learning Coalition of Duval, as the Early Learning leader for Duval County, will host and maintain the website.

“We have put the needs of our families and the community first,” added Main, “Our own Coalition and organizational content will be available, but secondary to the resources, information and tools the family and community need to prepare children during these earliest years, when 95% of brain development occurs.”

Founded in 1964, The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida works to stimulate philanthropy to build a better community. The Foundation helps donors invest their philanthropic gifts wisely, helps nonprofits serve the region effectively, and helps people come together to make the community a better place. ELC of Duval is the one-stop resource for information about early learning experiences in Jacksonville and Duval County. Early learning experiences are important for lifelong success because the majority of brain development occurs in early childhood. ELC of Duval helps:

    • families get their children into early learning care,

    • provide child care financial assistance, and

    • child care providers improve the quality of their early learning program.
