Don’t Be Complacent

By Reginald J. Clyne Esq. – Donald Trump cannot win the presidency if he loses the state of Florida.

It is in our power to end the dark period of the Trump presidency. America is a great country, but we have periods when we must hold our heads low in shame. The extermination of Native Americans, slavery, Jim Crow laws, internment of Japanese Americans and, most recently, the theft of children from their parents. Trump enacted a program to take children away from their parents as they sought to migrate to this country to discourage migration from Latin America into the United States. I am not sure the plan worked, but the result is that more than 500 children cannot be reunited with their mothers and fathers.

Some of those children were nursing babies or toddlers and have no way to identify their parents, because they were too young when they were ripped from their arms. Imagine someone wrenching your nursing baby from your arms, because you had the audacity to come to a country of immigrants and sought to migrate to the United States of America. Trump thinks these kids are in great shape because they are in beautiful “facilities.” I think facility means jail. No “facility” is a substitute for loving parents.

Trump is the worst president in the history of this country. As President Obama stated in his rally in Miami, “we cannot afford to be complacent. This is the most important election of our life.” Obama mentioned an important fact. His 2008 election resulted in one of the highest voter turnout in modern history – 61% of eligible voters voted. That means 39% of eligible voters did not. The presidential election in Florida can be determined by as little as 60,000 voters. There are enough eligible voters in Perrine, Miami Gardens, Liberty City, Opa-locka and the rest of this county to win this election for Biden-Harris. So do not be complacent, go and vote, bring your neighbor, bring your mother, bring your kids, bring everyone who “doesn’t have time to vote.”

We cannot afford four more dark years. God knows what horrible acts Trump will inflict on Black and brown people if he wins, keeps the Senate and has a super majority in the Supreme Court. Vote as if your life depends on it, because it does.
