The Johnson Family YMCA Board of Directors hosted their Kentucky Derby Party benefiting the beloved James Weldon Johnson Family YMCA, located at 5700 Cleveland Road.
The sold-out afternoon of fun included Kentucky Derby-style food and drinks helped raise more than $6,000 for the institution. Board Chair Mincy Pollock and Eric Mann, First Coast YMCA CEO, kicked off the event that featured a silent auction, live music, and best-dressed contest. Partyers donned their finest Derby-Worthy attire and indulged in prize giveaways that included everything from exclusive packages to Amelia Island’s Ritz Carlton to a Goodfellas Cigar Lounge membership and much more. They also enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby, the fastest two minutes in sports, on Cowford’s Chophouse rooftop with Mage, the 15-1 long shot, winning the horse race.
The Johnson Family YMCA will soon celebrate its 75th Anniversary. Their new Executive Director, Faith A. McGlown stated, “The rich legacy of the Johnson Family YMCA is engrained in Jacksonville’s Northside. We are celebrating 75 years of community and we’re reimagining our footprint based on the community’s voice.” McGlown is inviting the community to the Johnson YMCA Family Reunion free community event with food, fun, and family featuring musical guests, The Katz Downstairz scheduled for Friday, June 16th, 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm.
