By Aleta Turner – In honor of Black History Month, Mygani hosted the 9th Curls and Convo event with Empowerment Resources Inc.  Mygani’s signature event held inside the Vystar Tower, was created to instill the value of self-confidence in women and girls of color regardless of their hair texture or skin complexion.

“I wanted to create a safe space for women and girls of color to have open conversations about their identity. How they see themselves and how society sees them. It’s more than a natural hair event,” said Wright.

More than 120 attendees received natural hair education and listened to various hair journeys from the panelists, authors, natural hairstylists and the appearance of Iyana Brumfield, Miss Black USA Talented Teen 2023.

The Jacksonville community donated over 50 Black Barbies for the young attendees, who also received swags bags filled with hair care products.

“Curls and Convo offers a space for us black girls to be rejuvenated, empowered, and to celebrate our authentic beauty,” stated attendee Monique Rogers. The 10th Annual Curls and Convo event will take place February 8th, 2025.

The City of Jacksonville declared February 12 as Curls and Convo Day with an official proclamation. (L. Goodman Photos)
