Coinciding with public rallies, candlelight vigils and other similar activities held across the nation, the City events scheduled included a press conference, “Tossing of the Roses” event which honors victims of homicide and their families by tossing a rose in the St. Johns River. Other events include the annual Victims’ Rights Week Luncheon honoring individuals and programs that provide services to crime victims and the week of event finale included Families of Slain Children’s Balloon Release event in memory of crime victims.  Crime victims were honored as their names were read aloud during the vigil.
