World renowned award winning astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse-Tyson will take the stage in Duval for an evening of discussion on fossil fuel, the orbit’s stability and in his words, “Cosmic perspective from a scientific lens.” As a young man deGrasse-Tyson was always interested in the earth’s inner workings, which led him to his position as New York City’s Director of the Hayden Planetarium and tours around the world.
Tyson touched on the infamous 1970 commercial where the Indian Chief sheds a tear for the country’s pollution, littering and hazard waste threats. Per Tyson, 1970 was the year that the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) came into existence and in addition was the first year for a national Earth Day celebration! Tyson remarked, “We have to be informed, most of us are just now discovering the earth for the first time. The earth is an influence of what we think and feel about science, culture, politics, and life.” Tyson’s mantra for Americans is to see the world in a more enlightened cosmic stratosphere and to dispute and dispel any myths that are circling the orbits.
