May 10, 2022 (Jacksonville, Fla.) – National Nurses Month, traditionally celebrated from May 6 to May 12 each year, is now a month-long celebration to recognize the contributions and the positive impact nurses have in the care of their patients.
Community Hospice & Palliative Care employs over 400 nurses that care for 1,300 patients a day. Many times, at the end of life, a nurse is the last person a patient has contact with and provides the emotional and spiritual support needed.
From the early stages of the hospice admissions process until the final steps of a patient’s end-of-life journey, the skilled and compassionate impact of hospice nurses can be witnessed throughout the organization. Nurses play a vital role in the hospice care team and in many of the day-to-day patient care activities, understanding their role helps form a more complete picture of how hospice provides holistic care for patients, caregivers, and family members.
“We want to thank our compassionate and kind nurses for their care of our patients and families during their hospice journey,” said Mary McElroy, Senior Vice President of Hospice Services. “This has been a challenging year for all, and we have experienced our own losses of friends, family, loved ones. Our nurses have been compassionate guides for each other as well as our patient and family. This is their time to be recognized for the amazing gift of caring they provide to our patients.”
Community Hospice & Palliative Care will celebrate by honoring their nurses with multiple staff luncheon’s, a social media campaign that will share messages of thanks from staff and highlights their accomplishments. In addition, the Healthcare Relations team will be honoring nurses in the community to thank them.
