City Hosts Senior Summer Extravaganza

The City of Jacksonville’s Senior Services Division will host its annual Summer Extravaganza August 3 – 7.

During the fun-filled week, seniors are invited to participate in a number of activities at locations throughout the city.

Summer Extravaganza Activities include: Monday Movie Screening: Annie, Monday, August 3, 10 a.m., at the Jacksonville Main Library, 303 N. Laura St.; Mind, Body and Soul, Tuesday August 4, 10 a.m., at the Legends Center, 5130 Soutel Drive.

Participants will be engaged in physical activities like chair volleyball, basketball and pickleball; take on the challenge of trivia and word games, and get in touch with their inner being with Tai Chi and yoga; Who’s Got Talent? Wednesday, August 5, 10 a.m. at the Mary L. Singleton Center, 150 E. 1st St.; Summer Aquatics Fun, Thursday, August 6, 10 a.m., at the Cecil Aquatic Center, 13611 Normandy Blvd.; Stuff the Bus (school supply drive), Thursday, August 6, 10 a.m., at the Cecil Aquatic Center, 13611 Normandy Blvd.

Seniors are asked to donate school supplies for students in Duval County. Items such as pencils, erasures, paper and binders are welcome. These will be delivered to the Teachers Supply Depot for distribution; Senior Prom, Friday, August 7, 6 – 10 p.m., at the Prime Osborne Convention Center, 1000 Water St., Hall B.
This year’s theme is “Night on the Town.” The event features a formal dinner, dancing, live entertainment and door prizes. A highlight will be the crowning of the queen and king who will serve as ambassadors for senior center programs throughout the year. Residents ages 60 and older are invited to attend. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at Mary J. Singleton Center.
