Boney James | Berks Jazz FestSaxophonist Boney James, quietly known as James Oppenheim is one cool guy, his mild mannered conversation is his pathway to his soulful musical sound.  Born and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Boney’s childhood is where he learned to play the clarinet and eventually switched to the saxophone at age 10. Before graduating high school Boney move with his family to California and began his musical journey.

The highlights of his career includes being a member of the Morris Day Band and from there he toured with musical icons: Tina Marie, Isley Brothers, Randy Crawford and Bobby Caldwell, thus catapulting his career, “I always felt different and made different tours in my career and make it my mission to give 110% to my fans,” said Boney. With his perseverance and never give up attitude Boney has graced stages around the world for more than 40 years.  When fans hear that Boney is coming to town, old school smooth jazz fans, dash to the box office for tickets!

As a four-time Grammy Award nominee, Soul Train Award winner (Best Jazz Album 1998) and two NAACP Image Award nominations for Best Jazz Album – James has sold over three million albums, four RIAA Certified Gold Records. In 2009, Billboard magazine named James one of the Top 3 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Artists of the Decade.
