By Lynn Jones – Kemetic Empire/Urban Geoponics held their third annual Awareness Walk last weekend to raise awareness for the health disparities in Jacksonville’s African American community. Families and friends were invited to walk and exercise with health screeners and nutritionist on site to answer health questions and concerns. Walkers met-up on the corner of 16th
and Myrtle to warm up with nutritionist and personal trainer Melinda Henry and a brief yoga session from Nana Yaw Teitey. Highlighting the efforts of female participants, the Kemetic Empire/Urban Geoponics recognized Black women for their behind the scenes progress in the community with the first ‘Hidden Figures’ award. The Jacksonville based Kemetic Empire/Urban Geoponics organization works to resolve economic, education and health programs in Jacksonville and throughout the nation.
