The Sigma Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. hosted the Yellow Rose Luncheon as a heartfelt tribute to the women who lead the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) sororities in Clay and St. Johns counties. This gathering was not only a celebration of leadership but also recognition of the impact these women have on their communities. The luncheon’s symbolic yellow rose represents friendship, strength, and unity; values that reflect the collective progress of women in service and leadership.

Honorees included presidents of the following sorority chapters: Walette Stanford, President of the Pi Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Vera Brown-Floyd, Basileus of the Beta Alpha Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Dr. Keecia D. King, President of the Omega Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Monica Burgess, Basileus of the Nu Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; Monique N. Tookes, Basileus of the Delta Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Tatyana McCall-Wimberly, President of the Clay County (FL) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Attendees were also inspired by remarks from Tia Leathers, a member of the Alpha Beta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Her words reflected the significance of service, leadership, and the unbreakable bond shared among the Divine Nine organizations.

Sigma Pi Lambda’s First Vice President Howard Ford emphasized the importance of the occasion, stating, “It was an awesome event, and this was an awesome day to do it because it’s March 1st, which starts Women’s History Month. We had a chance to go out in the community and celebrate the women who are the backbone of all of our history.”

The Yellow Rose Luncheon not only highlighted the contributions of these exceptional leaders but also reinforced the fraternity’s commitment to uplifting and supporting the powerful women who drive meaningful change.

Held at Maggiano’s Restaurant, the event was chaired by Jabari Jones.
