The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Pi Lambda chapter held the ribbon cutting for its “Little Library” last weekend at the Moody Avenue Park in Orange Park, Florida. As a component of the fraternity’s “Go to High School, Go to College” national program and its partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida, this project is intended to promote literacy in the surrounding community. Residents are welcome to come and take a book as well as donate books.
Chapter member Sherman Riley was the chairperson for this event, “We’ve all heard that reading is fundamental, that’s true as we promote literary throughout Clay and Duval counties,” said Riley. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for African America men founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University. The Sigma Pi Lambda chapter was chartered on July 27, 2019 to serve Clay and St. Johns counties.
