Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. recently celebrated the end of its fraternal year by hosting an awards banquet inside the Kingdom Plaza Mall on the Westside. Invited guests and members were in attendance as the group reflected on a successful year. Chapter President Timothy Edwards recognized several members for excellent work during the year.
Chapter member Christopher Paige served as the chapter’s business manager and also volunteered several hours towards community action efforts performed throughout the year was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Brother of the Year award. Immediate past-President Avery Cohen was awarded the Charles W. Greene Award of Merit for his volunteer service with the elderly brothers in the chapter and the community and their widows. Attorney Marcus Isom Jr. was awarded the President’s Community Service Award for his work leading the chapter’s youth mentoring program and his involvement in the local legal community.
The men of Upsilon Lambda served the greater Jacksonville community throughout the fraternal year by volunteering at local food drives, awarding over eighteen thousand dollars in scholarships to local students, and raising money to support the March of Dimes program. The chapter’s Men of Valor youth mentoring program had an outstanding year mentoring over seventeen local teens with the three pillars of academics, leadership, and social skills. “Our Greek fraternity brotherhood of men has big plans for the upcoming year and look to do even greater work to propel our fraternity and the local community forward,” said member and awardee Attorney Marcus Isom Jr.
