AKA Debutantes Conclude 2015 Summer Season

AKA Sorority, Gamma Rho Mega Chapter 2015 Debutantes End Summer Season – The twelve 2015 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Rho Omega Chapter Debutantes ended the summer season with four activities last weekend. On Friday, August 13, 2015, Debutantes Kahtya Henderson, Aja Fisher and Gabrielle Terry were honored with “A View From the Top Luncheon” at the University Club. Ms. JoAnn Buggs, Mrs. Karen Jenkins and Ms. Sharron and Karen Patterson hosted the luncheon. Debs and guests were introduced and an icebreaker was held. The time they spent together gave the young ladies an opportunity to compare notes, share ideas and look forward to what’s planned for the future. The Debs and their guests enjoyed a delectable seafood buffet and adored the beautiful view of the city like they were “on top of the world”.

On Friday evening, Debutante Morgan Danford was honored with a “South of the Border Fiesta” at Ole Mexican Restaurant. All twelve debutantes were in attendance. Hostesses for the event were her mother, Mrs. Joyce Morgsn-Danford and her aunt, Mrs. Christine Fletcher. The Debutantes, decked in their embroidered sombreros, fiesta Mexican Ponchos, cut out banner and beautiful flowers played bingo, participated in Spanish conversation and enjoyed Mexican cuisine. On Saturday, Debutante Dzestinee Gleen-Bland was honored with a “High Tea” at the Cozy Tea Room at Five Points. Dzestinee’s mother, Mrs. Michele Glenn-Bland and Elder Elizabeth Yates, hosted “It’s Tea Time”. Elder Yates gave the Origin of Tea Parties and the proper etiquette when attending a tea party. Music was provided by Sarah Spencer, violinist and member of the H. H. Walker String Ensemble.   Sarah will be attending Douglas AndershonSchool of the Arts this fall. A quiz on the origin of Tea Parties was given and Kahtya Henderson won the prize. Executive Director Richard Cuff gave highlights of the “Guiding Success” program and the All About Kids VPK Music Academy.   Dzestinee’s menu included Cranberry Orange Scones, Blue Lady Tea, Angel Falls Mist Tea, Organic Mixed Salad Greens and a Sandwich Plate, which included Curried Chicken Salad, Egg Salad and Cozy Tea Cheese Spread and Cucumbers. The Debs and their guests, adorned in hats, gloves, purses and pearls sipped tropical exotic strawberry and lemon teas and enjoyed the savories. On Sunday afternoon, Debutante Fredricka Williams was honored with a “Masquerade Party” at Mimi’s Café at St. Johns Town Center hosted by her mother, Mrs. Gwen Williams. Gamma Rho Omega Chapter members in attendance at the affairs were Local Chapter President, Mrs. Mary Brown Davis; 25th International President, Dr. Norma Solomon White; Vice President, Mrs. Willetta Richie; Calendar Chair, Mrs. JoAnn Buggs; Mrs. Karen Jenkins, Mrs. Dianne Parker, Mrs. Joyce Morgan-Danford, Ms. Sharron Patterson, Ms. Karen Patterson, Mrs. Gail Holley, Mrs. Christine Fletcher and Elder Elizabeth Yates. The debutantes will return to their respective schools later this month and resume their debutante activities in November. The Debutante Coterie will be held at the Hyatt Hotel on Thursday, December 17, 2015.
