Centenarian Lloyd Pearson (Clawson Photo)

By Lynn Jones-Turpin – Hundreds of well wishers lined up to celebrate the 100th birthday for civil rights activist and United States Postal Service retiree Lloyd Pearson.  For more than 50 years, Pearson has been a resident of Old Floradale located in the 45th and Avenue B neighborhood.  To recognize his birthday and accomplishments Pearson’s children scheduled a drive-by birthday celebration. Family, friends, associates and dignitaries drove by his home, wishing him a well deserved happy birthday.

The day was scented with nostalgic narratives from his civil rights activism which spurned his trip to the 1964 March on Washington, his tenure with the local and national offices of the National Association for the Advancement Colored People (NAACP) organization and memories of his loving wife. Shown is the centenarian in his chair fit for a 100 year old king!
