Abandoned in the Storm: DeSantis’ Rejection of Billions Leaves Florida Unprepared for next Hurricane

Angie Nixon- Florida For All, Executive Director

Florida leaders and advocates held press conferences across the state to urge Governor Ron DeSantis and state Republicans to prioritize investments in resilient infrastructure and climate preparedness. With stronger and more frequent hurricanes devastating the state, leaders are calling for immediate action to secure federal funds and invest in long-term solutions that protect homes and communities. Governor DeSantis has repeatedly rejected billions of dollars in federal aid for climate resiliency, leaving millions of Floridians vulnerable as they rebuild after each storm.

The state’s refusal to invest in critical programs continues to strain our infrastructure, Citizens Insurance, and puts immense pressure on first responders and utility crews, who work heroically to manage the aftermath of each disaster. Without long-term solutions, these efforts will remain insufficient in addressing the growing impact of intensifying storms.
