Recapping the 2026 March on Washington, where leaders and advocates rallied to “Defend the Vote” on the 63rd anniversary of the historic 1963 march.
Community leaders, students, advocates and others gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Friday, August 28, held in honor of the 63rd anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which carried this year’s theme, “Defend the Vote.”
The 1963 March on Washington was organized to demand jobs, economic opportunity and civil rights for Black Americans during the height of the civil rights movement, where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
