In a multi-agency event, the City of Jacksonville, St. Johns Riverkeeper, and LISC Jacksonville came together to raise awareness about the St. Johns River. A team of volunteers with Amazon Jax 5 joined the 30th annual St. Johns River celebration to cleanup at the Harborview Boat ramp on Jacksonville’s Northside. Site captain Dana Maule was very excited to have so many on her team dedicated to beautification and cleanup efforts along Northside waterways. “The St. Johns River will be a safer place to enjoy after volunteers spent the weekend cleaning up the waterways,” said Maule.
Together this team collected 17 trash bags, tires, milk crates, street signs, car parts, paint buckets, and other debris. This annual event is part of the Keep Jacksonville Beautiful plan and included 43 sites across the city.
Jacksonville has the largest park system in the country totaling more than 400 parks and greenspaces. Each year volunteers work to protect and preserve Jacksonville’s greenspaces to increase resiliency and sustainability in Duval County.
