On March 25, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Edward Waters College Student Union Building, the Gamma Omicron Sigma and the Delta Upsilon Chapters of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., hosted a Youth Symposium for teens ages 12-19. The children were able to obtain valuable information from various speakers. The young men from the Jacksonville Kappa League provided information to develop and improve the youth’s leadership through development programs that uses educational and inspirational techniques to promote academic success, career preparedness and life skills. The five hour program was visited by financial planners, attorneys, military recruitment staff, juvenile correction officers, dental hygienist and sport coaches. Timothy Simmons, principal of First Coast High School, spoke to students about the importance of graduating high school, about attending college, and obtaining scholarships. “Program youth and mentors all learned something new today. The youth are our future and we want them to be equipped with the tools to succeed,” said Sigma Gamma Rho Event Coordinator Tosha Hawkins.
