Hundreds of students from 14 Jacksonville-area schools spent three days learning tennis, healthy living and leadership skills during the annual Tennis Jamboree hosted by tthe MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation, in partnership with Communities In Schools. Held at the foundation’s Sixth Street campus on Jacksonville’s Northside, the event brought together campers for daily tennis instruction, team-building activities and educational workshops designed to promote healthy lifestyles and development.

A highlight of the camp was a hands-on nutrition and cooking workshop featuring seasonal  seasonal Florida-grown produce. Local instructors taught students how to prepare healthy meals while emphasizing the importance of good nutrition as part of an active lifestyle. Organizers said the Tennis Jamboree is designed to introduce more  young people to the sport while helping them develop confidence and teamwork in a safe, supportive environment.

Founded by former professional tennis player player MaliVai Washington, the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation has served Jacksonville’s Urban Core for nearly three decades through year-round after-school and summer programs focused on academic achievement, character development and life skills. The nonprofit’s mission is to develop champions in the classroom, on the tennis court and in the community.

The foundation is also a  Community Impact Hub partner of the USTA Foundation, helping expand access to tennis and youth development opportunities for children throughout Northeast Florida.
