Make a Difference Leadership Academy, Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition and the Magnolia Project, introduced a free ‘Weathering the Storm of Motherhood’ workshop to local women. Held at the Emmett Reed Center, the purpose for the event was to encourage, inform, and share with the ladies the importance of motherhood as well as how to overcome the obstacles and stress of being a mother.
Through painting the ladies were able to relax and reflect on their parenting skills and expressed this strategy allowed them to be calm.
“This is the calmest I’ve been in a while. Motherhood can be draining and fun at the same time,” said attendee Lisa Hodges. The women were informed of the statistics of infant mortality rates locally and statewide and shared stores of resilience, persistence, and thriving as a mother/parent. Ultimately, the valuable information enforced how vital support, self-care, and advocacy helps during a time of need.
