Village of Volunteers Rally To Feed the Homeless at Annual Miracle

Clara White Mission Still on a Mission Serving Miracles on Ashley Street – The 21st annual Clara White Mission “Miracle on Ashley Street” event was a day to remember as organizations throughout Duval County volunteered in the efforts to feed the homeless. Hundreds of homeless veterans, women and children enjoyed meals prepared by various organizations, chefs and restaurants.   There was a bevy of food for guests to eat while partaking in conversations relating to eliminating homelessness and the continuation of specialized services such as the CWM Culinary and Janitorial programs where attendees learn not only basic skills, but skills that last a lifetime. Local Jazz singer Akia Uwanda sang a melody of songs as WJXT newscaster Melanie Lawson emceed the event. Congresswoman Corrine Brown was in the audience making deliveries, while Mayor Alvin Brown was eager to greet to the crowd. Clara White Mission president/CEO JuCoby Pittman smiled and spoke into the mic, “Thank you to the sponsors, my staff and volunteers. Without you we cannot do what we do to assist, feed and support the millions of people that come through our doors asking for help and seeking guidance.” The Clara White Mission daily mission is to continue providing services, food and hope to the homeless. For more than a century, the Clara White Mission has helped Jacksonville’s at-risk individuals gain new perspectives on life. The Mission has been the one-stop community center stimulating economic development through job training in educational programs, daily feedings, advancement and more.
