Dr. Ross Jones, of UF Health Jacksonville, Total Care Clinic Group Health recently accepted the Health Equity Sapphire Award from the Florida Blue Foundation. One of nine in the state, the award honors individuals as well as nonprofit programs and organizations for their leadership, innovation and excellence in three drivers of health – mental well-being, health equity and food security – all of which have a major impact on overall health outcomes. The award carries with it a cash price of $60,000.
Formed by UF Health Jacksonville in 2012, the Total Care Clinic Group provides health and well-being services including primary care, specialty care, pharmacy services mental health counseling, social services, wellness services an community outreach. The clinic provides care to over 14,000 patients resulting in over 40,000 visits per year. Over 90% of these patients are low income uninsured or have Medicaid, a majority of which are African-American.
