Tamron Hall Comes to Houston to Promote Harlem Honey Book

Two-time Emmy Award-winner Tamron Hall promotes new book at Black-owned bookstore in Houston.

In a time when several people in this country are trying to eliminate the voices of Black authors—especially in the world of education—there are still several entities that refuse to allow that to happen.

Here in Houston, Kindred Stories—a Black-owned, woman-owned bookstore in Third Ward—recently sponsored an event with veteran, two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, talk show host, and author Tamron Hall. She was in town to promote her new book, Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid, at Holy Family HTX Episcopal Church near downtown Houston.

Inspired by Hall’s real-life son, Moses, Harlem Honey: The Adventures of a Curious Kid is an entertaining and warmhearted children’s book about a young boy named Moses who goes on an exciting adventure around Harlem’s most iconic spots to deliver jars of honey for his neighbor and learn about the places that make Harlem home. As he travels across Harlem, Moses learns a valuable lesson about the meaning of home.

For Moses, Harlem couldn’t be any more different than the state of Texas he moved away from. His only friends are his dog, Lotus-May, and his bird, JoJo. However, when asked to help his new neighbor deliver the jars of honey to the people of Harlem, Moses finally gets the chance to make new friends and see all the places and people that make Harlem an amazing place to live and one of the most celebrated neighborhoods in the country.

Moses visits historic landmarks like the famous Apollo Theater, which has spotlighted some of the world’s most iconic entertainers and performers. He visits Sylvia’s Restaurant, which is the best spot in the city for cornbread. He also stops by the celebrated African American art of the Studio Museum, as well as witnessing the electric sounds of the neighborhood itself.

According to Hall, the story reflects moments when children can be overwhelmed by new experiences and places. She explained that her son, Moses, was confident at home but became shy whenever they would go out somewhere, which led her to explore the topic of fear.

Hall, 54, is no stranger to success. As mentioned, she is a two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and is currently the Executive Producer and host of the nationally syndicated talk show Tamron Hall, which recently returned for a sixth season in 2024.

A native of Luling, TX, Hall received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Temple University, where she serves on the Board of Trustees.
